Anyone for Pig's Organ soup?

Was at a sort of open area food court the other day and one of the options was Pig's Organ Soup. Yum. If I was a faithful blogger, I would have gotten if not to try it, then at least for the pictures. But to be honest, I didn't think that I could stomach even the thought of coming close to it.

Singlish Word of the Day: Kelong. Means unfair. So if I'm at a football game and the stupid referee keeps making calls in Auburn's favor, I'd say "Aiyo, referee calls kelong lah".

Amazing Advertising Learning: Tokyo Bust Express is taking off.

Kris's Dumb Canadian Moment: We met a Danish girl a couple weekends ago and he thought Danish people were actually Dutch people. Haha, SUCKA! Even I knew they were Danish.

I've done a lot of sightseeing the past few weeks to make sure I've seen all the touristy parts of Singapore. And here's the down low.

Chinatown - it's just like any other Chinatown but in a Chinese city. And you can get super cheap foot massages!

Brooke Kramer's friend Varune came for a weekend from India (where he's been working for Google about the same amoutn of time I've been here) and we went on the Singapore Flyer. They hype it up like it's this amazing sightseeing thing. Meh, I'm glad I did it, but it's a 30 minute ferris wheel and I can't say that it's the most amazing thing I've ever done. But it did have good views, even on the rainy day.

Varune is a fun guy, and it was nice to have a state side visitor. Even if I was the worst tour guide ever. And I'm jealous of all the travelling he has done around India. Now HE has some awesome pictures.

We also walked around the Marina Bay area and got up and close to the Marina Bay Sands and Resort. Which I also went up to the sightseeing deck a couple days later and got to see the infamous pool. Can't get in, but got some excellent photos! And then I rounded the corner and saw the other side. Kind of a downer when you actually see the walkway that is at the end of the 'infinity' pool.

We also went and had a Singapore Sling at it's birthplace, the Raffles Hotel. It won't mean much to you guys but Sir Raffles practically built this city so it's pretty cool.

Sentosa Beach - I never actually made it there for a day in the sun but I did go down there with Kris and the Swedish mafia for a late night beach party. All these kids are here for college. Didn't figure that out until the 5th person was amazed that I had an actual job and one guy said I was old. Kids these days, it's like no one taught them to be nice to their elders.

And this last weekend I made the trek down to Geylang district with Corinna, Bonnie and Bonnie's boyfriend Chao. It's Singapore's red-light district and also apparently the best place to go for local food. I beg to differ. I tried everything you see in front me in the group photo. Then I had to try the Durian. I'm not sure if everyone knows what Durian is, but I didn't until I got here. It's a hot topic. It is the rankiest fruit I have ever smelled. So much so, that the subway, hotels, cabs, offices, groceries sometimes ban it from even being on the property. And the smell never goes away. And yet some places actually sell it and people eat it. It amazes me. Anyways, Bonnie and Chao love it, so I decided I would at least give it a shot. It's a pineapple looking thing, and how the smell gets out of there, I'll never know. And when it's out of the shell (god helps us all), it kinda looks like bad, fake chicken and it's the weirdest consistency and probably the worst thing I've ever tasted along with the cricket calamari from a while back.

Awful. They also got these funny hairy fruits that after the Durian, I just couldn't muster up the strength to try. But they were kinda cool.

Speaking of adventure eating, I ate out of this place the other day. Believe it.

And this week I went to the Singapore Night Safari. Don't be fooled by the fancy pictures on the website. You won't get any. There's basically no evidence that I was there at all. But it is cool to experience. It's like Jurassic Park for a zoo. It's all open air and you are just right up next to the animals. Particularly the bat section where they are just flying all over your face. It was super scary and totally nuts that you're just in this space with bats flying at you.

So that ends the sightseeing section of our blog tour. I'd like to end it on 2 notes.

1. Kids humping sheep is apparently motivation to travel to Korea.

2. Subway here has the smartest travel bags! You can put you sandwich AND cup in the one bag.

This will be my last post from Singapore. I'm headed to Bangkok and Koh Phi Phi next week for vacation on Saturday before I'm back in the states on Oct 11th! Don't be jealous that you won't be here with me...
